Viking Yi Dun: A Small Ocean Ship Designed for Large Discoveries

The Viking Yi Dun, originally named the Viking Sun and an identical sister ship in Viking’s fleet of award-winning, small ocean ships, is specially designed to enable immersive voyages. With a capacity of just 930 guests in 465 staterooms, the ship offers a relaxed and comfortable experience. Its smaller size allows it to visit ports that larger vessels cannot access. Built in 2017 by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, the Viking Yi Dun combines contemporary Scandinavian design with world-class amenities. The ship features all-veranda staterooms, light-filled public spaces, and a diverse range of dining options, including both Japanese-inspired and international cuisine to enhance the onboard experience.

Ship History

Viking Yi Dun was built in Italy by shipbuilder Fincantieri as part of a series of identical ocean ships built for Viking, and originally named Viking Sun. The ship began sailing in Europe in 2017. In 2021, the ship became a part of a joint venture between Viking Cruises and China Merchants Group. The ship is registered as Zhao Shang Yi Dun in Shenzhen, China, with Viking responsible for all aspects of the onboard experience.
